Nandan Vijiana Challenge: May ’18

This month’s challenge is all about finding or creating beauty in this world – and sharing it.

Nandan Vijiana [vi-gya-an] is that branch of yogic philosophy that refers to aesthetic science, or the process of recognizing or appreciating beauty, especially with regards to nature, art, and refined human expressions.

The Overall Approach

This world is a special place yet sometimes we need a reminding of that. So for this month we will focus on appreciating the inherent beauty in nature and refined human interactions. And this may take shape in so many ways. For instance, planting a new garden or cultivating an existing one, witnessing a bird in flight, reading a story of compassion, and verily there are nearly an infinite number of expressions that touch the human heart and cause us to pause and reflect on the beauty of life.

Sometimes, it is just a matter of tuning in and not being so wrapped up in our own petty thoughts and daily routines. Throughout the month aim to stay present and key in to the flowering of spring, literally and metaphorically. And share it with us. Because we all could use a little of that from time to time.

“How To Do It”

Your gift of nandan vijiana might take the form of a poem you wrote or read, a photo you took or saw, a story your wrote or read, a painting you made, or a fence you built, or so many things. It might just be a random, spontaneous thought or the day’s reflection. Or maybe it is some type of internal realization or experience. There is really no wrong – it is simply sharing something you find to be moving.

So that is the challenge: To tune in, notice, watch, reflect, and figure out a way to share it as a service to others, i.e. making their journey on this earth more beautiful as well.
