What Is a Singing Bowl Bath?

We are hosting our next singing bowl bath on Thursday, Jan 23, 2020, and here is a short explanation of what it is and what to expect….

Quality of Sound: With winter upon us, this is an ideal time to engage in a singing bowl bath. Essentially, sound is one of the most subtle ways that we interact with the world; accordingly, sound has a very unique effect on the mind. And a singing bowl bath is built upon this tenet: through the use of sound the mind can achieve a highly refined state. And many find singing bowls to be a conducive medium toward this end.

Overview of the Evening: The first 10 – 15 minutes we will engage in gentle warm-ups to stretch the body that segues into a practicum on breathing and meditative techniques to provide you with some tools to employ during the singing bowl bath. This latter section will include information on the use of mantra and the role of chakras. Thereafter, for the next 60 – 70 minutes, we will immerse ourselves in the enchanting and mystical sounds of 20+ singing bowls, as well as a steel drum. There will be no talking at all. This will be your time to delve deep, experiencing states of sublime relaxation, tranquility, meditation, and stillness. In this day and age, it is rare that we offer ourselves such an extended experience. So this will be a unique opportunity. We will conclude with a short, collective meditation – and perhaps some sharing or reflections (optional).

What to bring: yourself, a friend or family member, yoga mat(s), blankets, cozy socks, neck pillow, eye pillow, x-tra layers, and anything else that will make you feel comfortable.

We will supply: yoga mats, neck pillows, eye pillows, blocks.

Date, Time, & Location: Thursday, Jan 23, 6:30p – 8p, Christ Church Parish Hall, 204 Owensville Rd (Rt 255), West River

Cost: $15 or monthly pass

  1. Thank you Satyam for a wonderful experience with the singing bowls !

I would agree with perhaps 15 – 20 minutes of yoga prior to the meditation. It would help us unwind from the day and generate some relaxing energy. Making the mental transition more fluent and easier to obtain. Again it was very nice !

    1. Thanks Greg – yes, we shall incorporate a bit movement to get things going next time. That will help with the transition from a busy work day to a space of meditation. Thanks Greg for coming out for the session!!

Here are other notes for next time: Ensure folks are lying on 2 yoga mats if their mat is thin; encourage folks to keep both phones and watches completely away.

  2. – “It was really an amazing experience for me. At one point, one of the (bigger?) bowls – the sound you played from it. My mind was starting to drift, then I heard the sound, and all of a sudden there was a ball of white on the crown of my head (but inside my head, like on the roof of my skull, not on top) and white ribbon type extensions coming down on each side. And then another time (in fact many times), I was seeing blue and green colors with the sounds. It was like my mind was seeing the sounds. Just like the white ball and side white extensions. My ears were buzzing/tingling. And the crown of my head tingled too. At some point in the latter half of the session, I noticed that different sounds were bringing about different responses at the different chakra points – I felt some in my heart – those where purple and red circles, ones at my forehead (those were a lot of the blue/green ones) and the white at the crown. I just can’t tell you what a euphoric, wonderful experience it was. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

    – “I really loved Thursday night’s class, thank you so much. ”

    – “It was so perfect for me, especially the length…in shorter sessions I get distracted by thoughts that “we’re going to end soon” but this hour was wonderful…total freedom from those thoughts and a chance to go so much deeper…and also knowing the bowls would not stop just made it so easy to focus…Very grateful for the session and it’s length…been a hectic month and this scheduled time to stop the busyness was an oasis that I kept reminding myself was coming up…”
