Watercolor Mandala

Watercolor Mandala

Here is the story of a mandala which, no doubt, many of you have seen before…

Mystery Mandala in Email

About two-thirds of the way down of my Weekly Update there is a very beautiful, artistic, and captivating design. This design is known as a mandala…

From Wikipedia: A mandala (Sanskrit: मण्डल, romanized: maṇḍala, lit. ’circle’, [ˈmɐɳɖɐlɐ]) is a geometric configuration of symbols. In various spiritual traditions, mandalas may be employed for focusing attention of practitioners and adepts, as a spiritual guidance tool, for establishing a sacred space and as an aid to meditation and trance induction. In the Eastern religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Shintoism it is used as a map representing deities, or especially in the case of Shintoism, paradises, kami or actual shrines.[1][2] A mandala generally represents the spiritual journey, starting from outside to the inner core, through layers. Here I would like to share with you the sincere seeker and artist behind this mandala. Her name is Raquel, and this is how the mandala appears on Raquel’s Instagram page:

Raquel writes:

This is my second water color mandala. This one took me a while to finish. Interestingly, I felt resistance to adding in the peacock feathers but I was being prompted to add them so I just opened up and trusted they would turn out. I have never added feathers to a mandala before.

When I stare at this mandala, I feel an Egyptian sort of theme. And in this feeling, it reminds me of a book I read called Initiation by Elisabeth Haich. It was written in 1953. She was a Hungarian spiritual teacher who had incredible lucid memories of a past life as an Egyptian Priestess. It is quite astounding and for anyone interested in tarot, she also authors a tarot book and other yoga books. Her story of her past life in Egypt is mind boggling and there is a section in the book where she discusses sacred geometry. I recommend this book to anyone who is on the awakening path. I hope you enjoy this mandala! #mandalas #mandala #watercolormandala #egyptainpriestess #initiation #elisabethhaich #peacock #awakening #spiritualawakening #sacredgeometry

Raquel reflects:

My desire to create mandalas took me by surprise. While I had always been drawn to them, I never thought I could create one.

Then one morning I woke up with a strong urge to try. I took myself to an art supply shop and bought a few tools to get started. I watched a YouTube video, quickly closed it, and began on my own. This was in 2018.

It wasn’t until 2020 when I began experimenting with watercolor, which, so far, is my favorite way to add color.

Creating mandalas brings me into a space of a quiet mind. It is where my perfection tendencies both go by the way side but also serve purpose. Utilizing accurate measurements is very satisfying to me, yet the patterns that bloom are anything but perfect.

I still am amazed by what turns out.
