Seed & Nut Challenge: Oct ’21

Seed & Nut Challenge: Oct ’21

Let’s really dig into our seeds and nuts this month – learning new tips and trying ingredients….

Overview: Here is some basic information about seeds and nuts. In addition, throughout the month, we shall share some seed and nut recipes, and we kindly request you to share what you are making as well.

Here are a few general thoughts:
(a) Soaking raw nuts and seeds is often thought to be the best way to ingest (and digest) these edibles. Soaking times vary, anywhere from 8 to 72 hours (changing the water regularly) depending on what you are trying to achieve.
(b) Grinding seeds is a wonderfully effective way to get the full nutritional value. A classic example of this is flax seeds.
(c) Naturally, if you are grinding seeds or nuts, then that should be done when they are dry.
(d) Roasted, salted, sweetened seeds and nuts have a radically different health and nutritional cross-section than when in their natural raw state. That said, we all need a treat once in a while.
(e) The most cost effective way to purchase nuts and seeds is in large, bulk quantities.

Next we share some info images….just to get some ideas churning in the mind.

Now the challenge for the month is to try some new types of seeds and nuts, or experiment with different ways of preparing the seeds and nuts you’ve been using for years. And along the way we shall be sharing our suggestions.

Finally, kindly share your tips, recipes, guidelines, and explorations with us. We shall compile all entries….
