Overview:

Human beings need nourishment in all realms of life: physical, psychic, and spiritual. Food plays an important role in all three realms because the food we eat does not just affect our body, but our mind as well.

In this course, we shall examine the importance of our food choices and their impact on our overall health. Each week we will explore a particular theme or themes via an opening lecture; thereafter there will be ample opportunity to pose queries (both on and offline) and branch out into a more open forum / free flow discussion as we recognize that everyone comes to this course with their own stories, challenges, talents, and successes. So part of the class will be hearing from those who care to share their experiences.

The overall aim will be to create a safe, supportive environment for learning and transforming, all the while providing you with information to make informed dietary choices suitable for your way of life. There will also be scope for recipe sharing, food prep secrets, and shopping tips.

Some of the major themes we shall explore are: (a) the yogic diet, (b) the acid – alkaline perspective, (c) the protein issue, (d) keto vs plant-based, (e) the role of fats, starches, and fiber, (f) “super foods”, (g) the use of water, (h) fasting, (i) how to make dietary changes, (j) weight loss, (k) disease prevention, and more.

The course will not offer cooking demos or time in the kitchen. We will provide you with an extensive handout and numerous resources for further study and consideration.

Looking forward to having you on board and being part of this collective food think tank.

This course is appropriate for learners and seekers of all ages and backgrounds, including casual eaters and foodies of all types.

This course fulfills Continuing Education credits with Yoga Alliance as Satyam is an E-RYT 500 and a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider.

  1. Still reeling after watching “What the Health?” documentary on Netflix.

Looking forward to making healthy choices for the rest of my life. I won’t beat myself up over choices I had made up until now because most were presented as “healthy” options. The changes I have experimented with recently (intermittent fasting, more plant-based choices) have been painless (literally) and surprisingly rewarding. Looking forward to revamping recipes I already have as staples, and adding more to my recipe collection.
