Mom’s Patagonia Photo Journal

Mom’s Patagonia Photo Journal

Here some of the vistas and scenes from mom’s recent trip to Patagonia….

As many of you know, mom recently embarked on a trip to Patagonia, and here is the promised follow-up letter with some of the photos from her trip. Her flash drive is packed full with about 800 photos and videos that their guide (and seemingly professional photographer) took of the group, landscape, wildlife, and natural surroundings. Here below is a small sampling….

Above is a view of the approach from grasslands to water to subalpine to mountains to glaciated peaks. Below are mom (right) and her friend & traveling companions, Maggie.

A few shots of the icefall where glaciers meet water and perpetually dump large jagged pieces of ice into the sea…the third image below is a video….

“The guanaco (Lama guanicoe) is a camelid native to South America, closely related to the llama. Its name comes from the Quechua word huanaco[2] (modern spelling wanaku). Young guanacos are called chulengos.” (Courtesy of Wikipedia)

Views of the great expanse and the lay of the land….

Oh those rope bridges…not as stable as they may look….

Some shoreline hikes amongst the wildflowers….

A few of the towering glaciated peaks…

After about ten days of overland travel and hiking etc, they navigated the seas (i.e massive lakes) on this luxurious liner for a 4-day venture, where a little R & R was needed. However, as you will notice they were not always on this big boat…

They took numerous side-trips on zodiacs to get a closer look at those glaciers and the local wildlife…this puts it into perspective just how huge the icefall and glaciers are….

Hiking the rocky shoreline with the penguins…..

A few parting shots….just to remember the awesomeness of the area….

  1. Thank you for sharing, I was looking forward to seeing these! The photography is stunning, and your mom is keeping up with everyone. I love that she did that, because not many would have attempted a trip like this at her age. She is an inspiration to all of us! I’m sure she enjoyed all the beauty the earth has to share.
