Meet Our New Yoga Teacher – Jaya

A very warm welcome to Jaya

Jaya will be leading our Beginning Yoga class on Tuesday evenings starting July 14

We are very pleased to welcome Jaya as an instructor for our new and updated Tuesday evening class, Beginning Yoga, and feel she will make a great addition to the Renaissance Yoga community. Jaya, a registered yoga teacher (RYT-200) from the Integral Yoga Institute in Yogaville (VA), comes to us with a solid teaching background and the requisite experience to impart the principles of yoga in a safe, open, and inspired manner.

Jaya first came through our doors a few months ago, in early April or so, when she and her husband, Ivan, dropped in for the Saturday Abs class and Yoga for Strength and Fitness. It was quite apparent that she had an established practice and I soon came to know that she was a certified teacher.

Since that time, Jaya has come regularly to our Tuesday morning and Saturday classes, and one day while I was at home the idea came in mind that she would be an ideal complement to our burgeoning staff of one! I felt that her warm and kind-hearted manner, along with her yoga expertise, would be a natural fit. Fortunately for us, she was available and eager to join us.

Here is more about Jaya’s background:

  • Her long-standing interest in yoga took on a greater dimension after she lost her career in law enforcement due to a work-related injury. It was then that she discovered the true healing powers of yoga. And it became her new way of life.
  • She completed the 200 RYT Teacher Training through the residential Integral Yoga Academy at the Satchidananda Ashram in Yogaville, VA.
  • Jaya, a Sanskrit name meaning “Victorious one”, was gifted to her during her training period.
  • She attended workshops in Yoga Therapy for Chronic Pain offered by Gary Kraftsow, founder of the ViniYoga Institute.
  • Jaya, born and raised in VA, currently resides in Shady Side, Maryland with her husband, Ivan, along with two dogs & two cats.

Jaya’s first class for us will be Tuesday, July 14 at 7pm (Christ Church Parish Hall) and we hope that you will come out and meet Jaya & experience her teaching style.
