In Memoriam: Coit Hendley

In Memoriam: Coit Hendley

We are very saddened by the passing of Mary’s husband, Coit. Herein are our remembrances, as well as Coit’s formal obituary.

A gathering for family & friends on Sunday Feb 2nd – please find details below.

UPDATE 2/2/20 at 4:20pm: The gathering at Coit’s remembrance and life celebration was absolutely enormous, spanning the entire spectrum of society: family, friends, colleagues, and seemingly everyone, including a large number of his current and past high school  students. There was also a solid showing from our renyoga community. The weather was stunning, turning the event into an indoor / outdoor occasion. Coit’s life was clearly full of love and respect, and no doubt that same spirit and support will embrace Mary as she navigates life from here forward.

We extend our deepest wishes and heartfelt condolences to Mary for the sudden, tragic, and unexpected loss of her dear husband and soulmate, Coit. Mary is a well-loved, integral, and long-standing member of our renyoga community. Words fail to convey what she and her family are going through.

Over the years, I had occasion to meet Coit a few times, and I found him to be very congenial and sincere – and multi-talented. Certainly, anyone Mary chose to partner with for life was bound to be special. And together they raised two wonderful boys (Taylor & Kevin), whom I’ve met and practiced with over the years. They are both grown and married, and live here in Maryland.

Coit and Mary ventured the globe together. Here below are a couple of photos from their June 2018 trip to Alaska. It was the month of our Backbend Challenge. And in true yoga spirit, they did backbends on every possible surface and foreground across the grand state of Alaska!!

Here are more shots from that trip: Mary & Coit Backends in AK #1, Mary & Coit Backends in AK #2, & Mary & Coit Backends in AK #3.

Coit could grow just about anything – many of you may recall the enormous stock of persimmons they shared with all of us a short while back – as well as many other home-grown goodies over the years.

Our deepest condolences to Mary, her two sons, and the greater Hendley family during this time. As mentioned, there is a gathering for family and friends this Sunday Feb 2nd – scroll down for details.
