Here is a way to track your smart phone (any type) in case it gets stolen…

Note: Many of you may have ways to track your phone with your own carrier or smart phone maker, but this is something extra you can also do. Plus it may come in handy to know your IMEI number. The following is adapted from a piece that is moving around India blog / WhatsApp conversations.

Every smart phone carries a unique IMEI number, i.e. International Mobile Equipment Identity Number, which can be used to track your smart phone anywhere in the world. Here is how it works…

1. Dial *#06# from your smart phone.

2. Your unique 15-digit IMEI # will come up on the screen.

3. Note down this number anywhere – but not in your smartphone – as this is the number which will help trace your mobile in case of its theft.

4. If stolen, just e-mail this 15 digit IMEI number (and the following details) to cop@vsnl.net

5. No need to go to the police.

6. Your phone will be traced within the next 24 hrs via a complex system of GPRS and internet services, and you will find out where your phone is being operated, even if the phone # has been changed.
