Here are a few pieces of news I came across in my daily wanderings. The first is related with the continued, tremendous rise and interest in yoga and meditation. As mentioned in the past, the true definition and meaning of yoga is sadhana or meditation. So yoga and meditation are not two different practices. That said, in contemporary parlance, the postures are taken to be yoga and meditation is deemed as a separate entity. Keeping that awareness in your back pocket, the following headline shows just how much interest there is nowadays in these yogic practices.

One of the reasons for their great popularity is that the yogic practices are based upon our intrinsic human qualities and nature. That’s to say, everyone has a human body and a human mind, and the yogic formula offers ideal pathways for enhancing both body and mind. Yoga is not based on some outside interest or passing fad; it is absolute central to who we are as human beings. The physical practices keep the body limber and youthful, and they also calm the mind. And the meditative endeavor goes deep into the human psyche and beyond. It purifies the mind on numerous levels. So practicing the various aspects of yoga is like giving your entire existence the ultimate tune-up.

The headline of the article describes the rise of yoga as “remarkable”, and from a social science perspective that is probably true. From the yogic perspective, we would term this rise in interest as completely natural. Because yoga is uniquely fit to help each and every human being advance. In that case, it is the logical, rational, and quite a natural choice to bring yoga into your life.
