Glute Challenge: November ’19

Glute Challenge: November ’19

For the month of November we will be focusing on the all-important muscles that comprise our glutes…

Strong Muscle Essential in Daily Life

One of its main claims to fame is that the gluteus maximus is arguably the strongest muscle of the body.

Gluteus Maximus: The gluteus maximus is the largest muscle in the human body. It is large and powerful because it has the job of keeping the trunk of the body in an erect posture. It is the chief antigravity muscle that aids in walking up stairs.” (https://www.loc.gov/rr/scitech/mysteries/muscles.html)

We use and depend upon our glutes in all kinds of ways in our daily life, most notably for getting up out of a chair or climbing stairs. Yet in today’s ever increasingly sedentary lifestyle, the glutes become weak, and often extremely tight. A well-rounded yoga practice can be key in strengthening these muscles and making them more dynamic.

So throughout this month, we will be focusing on poses that both strengthen and stretch our glutes. We will also provide resources so we can build our base of understanding and knowledge of this important muscle group.
