The Hip-Opener Workshop Recap

Great having everyone out for Sunday’s seminar: “The Hip-Opener Workshop”. It was wonderful to spend the afternoon with everyone – as we all learned about the make-up and range of motion of our hips.

We started out by discussing how our modern, western society is a perfect recipe for tight hips – unless one is a kindergarten teacher!! For the most of us, all our regular activities like driving, sitting at a desk or dining table, and even exercises like running contribute to seriously tight hips.

We then went over the anatomy of the hip – a great ball & a socket joint, its range of motion, and the various dynamic muscle groups of the hips like the hip flexors, adductors, abductors, gluts, and that all important piriformis.

From there we dived into a nearly 2 hr practice of hip-openers from all different types of positions: Chair yoga, seated poses, supine positions, standing poses, prone position, and from table. All in all we explored dozens of poses and their variations at a comfortable, calm pace.

  1. Great workshop! What helped me most was learning which exercises may solve my hips’ tightness. That frog position may kill me, but it will help a lot!
