Smoothie Challenge: June 2015
The Smoothie Challenge
June 2015
Most everyone likes a good smoothie and when the ingredients are fresh – all the better. Now in our area there are u-pick strawberries and a variety of local fruits (& veggies) available. So we thought this would be a great time of year to take on the smoothie challenge.
As good as local and fresh fruits are, not all produce is available locally and fresh. However, some of the organic, frozen offerings are extremely good – so you may want or need to stretch in that direction as well.
About the Challenge
It is really quite simple. Using your stick blender (very inexpensive), traditional blender, or Vitamix, begin experimenting with new or old smoothie recipes. It might be something off the cuff or it may be very well planned and deliberate. It might be an ounce of two of something bitter and green, or you might sneak a few greens in with your fruit, or perhaps it is a “bombs-away” fruit smoothie galore. Whatever your fancy let us know how it goes – send along pics and recipes of your favorite ones. Also, if you find some ingredients that you feel are really good, give a shout-out about where you picked / purchased them!!
A Few Resources
I know there are some of you out there who want nothing to do with a recipe for a smoothie – you find that just plain deplorable. Spontaneity is your delight. On the other hand, there are others who like a little structure and enjoy sampling tried and true recipes. In that case here are a few sites that offer ways to proceed.
Here is a universal recipe for a general fruit smoothie.
Or try one of these 50 fruit smoothies.
Healthy & delicious – look this way.
How about a light smoothie breakfast.
