Salad Challenge: July ’18
Salad Challenge: July ’18
Here is an ideal challenge for the middle of summer – so get your greens, herbs, add-ons, toppings, and dressings in gear…
(Here are the entries we have received thus far.)
Overview
The salad challenge is a time to:
(a) Take advantage of summer’s bounty – either from your own garden or a local farm;
(b) Explore new salad ingredients and recipes for dressings;
(c) Incorporate raw / live foods into your daily living;
(d) Share ideas and see what salads others are creating.
Ingredients
I am quite sure you do not need any suggestions as everyone has their own special way of creating a salad. So rather than specifics, I will offer a few broad, sweeping strokes.
Categories: Greens, roots, fruits (tomato is a fruit), sprouts, nuts, legumes, edible flowers, seeds, berries, soy products (tofu / tempeh), herbs.
Sizing & Cutting: Whole, diced, chopped, shredded, shaved, spiralized, grated, ground, sliced, or…. some people say the vegetables taste different depending on how they are cut.
Dressing: Here is another avenue for creativity and ingenuity. These days there are so many different types of oil, vinegar, or maybe you prefer a dash of lemon or lime with some fresh herbs and pepper – or what about ground flax seed and / or nutritional yeast, or steamed spices etc. Whatever you choose homemade is almost always preferable, but if you have a company favorite let us know.
How To Participate
(a) Make your salad of choice;
(b) Send us a photo;
(c) Share a word or phrase about it.
The Grand Tally: We are collecting all entries here – you may submit as many as you like – to share them with our yoga community. Look forward to hearing / seeing what you come up with…
