Recap: Yoga Anatomy / Bio-Mechanics

Thanks to all who came out for yesterday’s (Sat 2-22-14) Yoga Anatomy: Bio-Mechanics & Alignment workshop. It proved to be yet another insightful seminar. And you all really brought a lot to the fore with respect to queries, engagement, and more.

Yoga AnatomyAs usual, Sean raised some really key concepts, reminded us of past lessons, and highlighted some of important aspects of bio-mechanics. Many topics were covered including neutral spine (from various positions), the hip hinge (critical for proper squatting), hip movement (flexion, extension, adduction and abduction, inner & outer rotation), engagement of gluts, stabilizing vs mobile joints, as well as functional movement. And there was more as well – including all the various insights gained by each practitioner in particular poses.

All the way around it was quite a dynamic gathering and we look forward to having Shawn back again – perhaps in the fall.

Here following are some of the many participant responses to the query, “The best part of the seminar was…”

Going over alignment in yoga poses I do often allowed me to see where I have imbalances and how to correct them.

Learning about hip flexion vs hip opening and getting the squat position right.

For me hip stuff. How to stabilize the core to prevent back pain during poses, the correct way to do the poses.

Specific questions to my situation. Watching Sean manipulate Liz’s back for a great demonstration of upper vs lower back mobility.

Thinking again about all these aspects of alignment especially (1) turning the knee outward for strength in pushing up from lunge, (2) tightening the shoulder of the extended arm in triangle, (3) keeping the neutral spine in warrior pose, (4) working those gluts!

Developing a fuller understanding of neutral spine and use of neutral spine in perfecting a pose.

Great having everyone out for the seminar!!
