Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. ― Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows

#3: Annie writes us:

Here’s two of my quotes to live by. They are especially significant to Kirk and I now as we embark on this new phase in our lives; both quotes are lighthearted but in my heart, they abound with truth!

The older the violin, the sweeter the music. (traditional)

Probably self-explanatory coming from a couple married for 37 years.

There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing choices. (traditional)

We are following literally in our outdoor activities, but which is also our new philosophical mantra as we age and resolve to live our lives to the fullest, no matter what challenges arise.

They are both traditional sayings  of unknown exact origin – but I first read the violin one in the book Lonesome Dove, and the second is Swedish or Norwegian but comes up a lot in hiking stories.

#2: Patty shares this with us:

I was just reading your newsletter and thought you might enjoy this quote I found on Facebook over the weekend. Of course the photo is charming as well.
