Pigeon Challenge: Jan ’22

Pigeon Challenge: Jan ’22

Throughout the month we will be uploading videos, photos,
and tips for refining your practice of pigeon pose….

Pigeon pose (kapotasana or rajakapotasana) is a deep hip-opener and glute stretch getting deep down into the piriformis muscle. Yoga Journal enlists these benefits of the pose:

  • Increases external range of motion of femur in hip socket
  • Lengthens hip flexors
  • Prepares body for backbends
  • Prepares body for seated postures such aspPadmasana (Lotus Pose)

The aim is to help improve your understanding of the pose as well as its execution. To this end, we shall introduce warm-up poses, how-to videos, photos, and tips so you can deepen your practice. All materials will be numbered and uploaded to this page.

Also if you have a favorite photo of you doing the pose, please do send that along – as well as any questions you may have. Looking forward to practicing this pose with you all month long.
