One World ~ One Yoga Event: Photos & Recap
Had a wonderful inaugural One World – One Yoga festival at Wetlands Overlook Park (North Beach, MD) on Saturday May 9. Wonderful to have so many people come out and join in – and a very nice showing from the Renaissance Yoga community. The morning started out a bit misty and the weather just kept getting better and better as the day progressed.
We had a very nice turnout for the 10am meditation session that featured a short intro on the benefits of meditation, followed by practicals on breathing, visualization, ideation, and more – transitioning between gentle guidance and silence.
Directly afterwards, we held a vinyasa yoga class which was meant to offer some challenge, along with plenty of modifications. In total around 30+ attended that class. See photos below – as always click to enlarge any of the shots.
Here we are in a squat on the freshly cut grass.
Doing a backbend to the great sky above…Please also take note of the three live musicians who provided a nice backdrop for our practices. Seated are two high school sophmores who played guitar and ukulele – and sang. They were a wonderful duo and behind them is Mark (I believe) who played a variety of eclectic, world music type of instruments during the meditation session and vinyasa class.
This time it is leg to the sky…
This Warrior III variation allowed all to reach forward…
We did attempt some handstand-based poses and here in front we have Sharon getting a nice rise.
A healthy side-plank ensured that we spent a bit more time on the arms.
Really enjoy seeing one and all synchronized for this Warrior II reverse variation.
What would a practice be without going lateral.
Just in case anyone did not get enough handstand attempts the first time.
The session culminated with a short sharing and story…
Many thanks to Elizabeth Lawton for being the point person and primary mover and shaker for getting this entire event organized. Also much gratitude to the kind woman who I gave my phone to on-the-fly while I was teaching – she did a great job of taking all these photos. A big thank you to Jaya for shooting and sending along the last photo of this post. And top of all, thanks to all who came out and made this inaugural gathering such a success! See you next year – May 7, 2016 – I believe…
