Birgit’s letter begins:
The May 19 Politics & the Nation article “Report: Pollution responsible for 1 in 6 deaths worldwide over past five years” reported that 9 million people die because of pollution each year. It told us that most of this takes place in poorer countries. However, you needn’t go farther than Baltimore to find this kind of pollution coming from the Wheelabrator incinerator, which burns trash for energy. READ Full Article…..
Wow, Birgit, such an eye opener! I knew nothing about this; thank you for shining some light on what is going on. I have family and friends in Baltimore and had no idea.
To add insult to injury, unless they changed the law this year, Maryland considers incineration as part of its renewable energy portfolio. I know that groups have been trying to change this for years but not sure if anything happened with it this year.
