Chakras are an integral aspect of our yoga practice. But what are they? Where are they? What effect do they have and how do we positively affect them. Throughout the month we will explore these questions and more through our yoga postures, in-class talks, podcasts, meditations, and more.

And yes – we will aim to answer any particular questions you may have.

Glad to have you on board!!

  1. What timing!! I am read the book Wheels of Life by Anodea Judith. The book mentions that people sometimes focus on the higher chakras neglecting the lower. I believe I have fallen into that group. Any thoughts and/or meditations for the lower chakras. Thanks : )

    1. Yes, it’s true. The chakras are a system and the base chakras need to be adequately developed – not ignored. Just as when constructing a high-rise building they do not only focus on the penthouse suite; rather they build from the ground up beginning with the establishment of a firm foundation.

So the lower chakras also need to be properly cared for as they are the foundation for the higher chakras. And those lower chakras are properly balanced and maintained by:
      (a) Regularly practicing yoga postures / asanas. Asanas are glandular based exercises and those glands are intricately related with the corresponding chakra.
      (b) Eating a sentient (sattvika) diet.
      (c) Getting adequate sleep for cellular restoration, but not oversleeping which leads to dullness and lethargy.
      (d) Doing certain meditation lessons which focus on the lower chakras.
      (e) Maintaining all-round physical health and cultivating benevolent thoughts.
      (f) Not (over)indulging in the propensities (vrttis) associated with those lower chakras.

Hope that helps. Thanks for your excellent query…
