Artwork: Floating Lotus
Artwork: Floating Lotus
Here are a few pieces by Pat Morrison that were on display at her most recent show. Pat’s a local artist who is also a regular in our yoga classes…
One of the recurring themes in Pat Morrison’s work is the lotus. In the field of yoga, the lotus – known in Sanskrit as padma, niiraj, kamal, pankaj – holds great meaning and symbolism. Because the lotus grows in the muddy water yet flowers at the surface without any blemishes. It is the essence of purity. Similarly, we live in the busyness of this mundane, material world, yet aim to make the mind perfectly tranquil, untainted by the noise and dirt around us. That is the way of the yogi. And verily that is what the lotus pose or padmasana helps one achieve. By sitting erect in a meditative state one can achieve a stance of perfect peace, despite living in this distracting, temporal world.
Thanks so much Pat for sharing your work with us. Those who would like to reach Pat may email her at: patmorrison52@cs.com
